Toxic Products In The Household

Why does this even matter? Will it make a difference?

The answer is: yes

Everything around us is to an extent, toxic. No kidding. The air we breathe, the food we eat, our water, EMFs, radiation, chemicals, general and noise pollution and more.

We are seeing an alarming rise in illness all around us, however benign. And in conventional medicine, it is rarely ever linked to toxicity. Our bodies are living breathing organs that absorb everything around us.

What we inhale, what we touch and put on and inside our bodies, affects our organs, cells, mind and nervous system and system as  whole.

Why do you think people are required to wear masks and often hazmat suits when working with chemicals, like when they are spraying pesticides, herbicides, and chemicals on food or when they work in factories?

Because they are playing with CHEMICALS. Chemicals: a compound or substance that has been purified or prepared, especially artificially.  And yes, while science and chemistry have done some quite amazing things, it doesn’t necessarily mean its GOOD for us. For our health.

In my podcast episode, we will discuss this in greater length.

Some things to consider when it comes to the pollution all around us:

Air Quality in the city:

If you live in a city you know how terrible air quality. Main culprits are: factories, automobiles, fumes, cigarettes, carbon monoxide, pesticides, chem trails, acid rain, off gassing, smoke and more. All actively working together to cause one giant dome of recycled pollution There are days that have smog days where kids aren’t allowed outside. You can even monitor air quality. Click here to check Toronto’s air quality.

Hamilton in Ontario, Canada is so bad with air pollution because of all the factories, steel factories and industry operations. The air quality is so bad in certain areas, It is the equivalent of smoking packs of cigarettes a day! Downtown Toronto isn’t even better. Living near highways or busy streets= even worse air quality.

Air Quality indoors:

INDOOR AIR QUALITY UNFORTUNATELY isn’t much better. In fact, generally, indoor air can be 2 to 5 times worse than outdoor air, even on the smoggiest day!

Pollutants include:

  • Off-gassing of VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) like

  • Formaldehyde, benzene, chloride, tetrachloroethylene found in cleaning products, furniture, solvents, carpets, air fresheners, paints, adhesives.

  • You have toxic molds, household dust and micro particles of plastic.

  • Insulation and building materials can off-gas too.

  • For instance, Radon which is a naturally-released gas from the Earth, is carcinogenic and can accumulate in homes. Older, draftier buildings are not an issue, but the smaller insulated ones that dont have much air circulation. It is one of the leading causes of lung cancer after smoking. You can get a radon tester.

Toxic products include everyday items like

Shampoos, soaps, personal items, makeup, cleaning items , they are all made of man made chemicals. and we spray them use them around us.

Some things we can control are things like:

  • Cleaning products

  • Hygiene products

  • Cosmetic products.

  • Furniture (carpet, mattress, plastic items)

Negative Health Impacts:

  • Affect our tissues & cells

  • Cause nausea and GI issues

  • Nervous system disorders

  • Brain fog and cognitive impairment

  • Some chemicals even contribute to cancer, like glyphosate

  • Endocrine & hormonal disruptions

So if there's ways to minimize it, why don’t we?

WHAT TO DO?

  • Buy healthy sustainable alternatives

  • Stop buying plastic. Plastic is capable of disrupting endocrine function, leading to hormonal imbalances and reproductive issues.

  • Support local green companies and healthier products, even if its slightly more expensive..

  • Avoid single use plastics like straws and bags that damage the environment all around us

  • Use glass  jars, containers and bottles. They are durable and long lasting.

  • Open your windows and air out your space often.

  • Invest in an air filtration system. Some starter ones like the HEPA filter are affordable.

  • DIY: Make your own cleaning products with vinegar, baking soda, lemon, essential oils and other natural effective disinfecting agents.

  • Make your own shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, creams that are natural and non toxic. The earth is so rich in powerful substances

  • Read more about sources of toxicity in your household and seek to remove them. That includes molds that grow- can cause respiratory issues like asthma.

Every little step or change makes a difference. Even if its switching to a fluoride free toothpaste, or a paraben free shampoo.
